My dear friends:

      I will be "leaving on a jet plane" in a few days. Before I take off and slip away, I want to say something to you guys in case I forget in the last moment.

      For the 5 years in United States, knowing you and being your friends is the one of the most important memories in my life. We have experiences that other people have never been through, we have difficulties others would never think of, we have loniless that they will never understand. We could've backed off, we could've withdrawed, we could've surrendered. But we didn't. We prove something to others that we are capable of facing any challanges, and we can do it.

      I am so proud of us being together helping each other in these years. Maybe years later, when we see each other again, we still can say his or her name loudly and give him or her a warm handshake and a hug. Maybe we will tell somebody our stories, our victories and our embarrased moments. Lol. The best time belongs to us.

      It's a pity that I couldn't continue to have fun with you guys but I believe we will always keep in touch 'cause we are buddies. It would such a great honor that years pass by and you still remember me as a friend. I wish you all well no matter what business you are in to, and I looking forward to meet you again in the near future.

My first laptop

Watch yourself! I just got myself a new laptop. It's a Compaq Presario v2555US with 15' widescreen. I went to the local Staples store to check the prices and brands for laptops. As soon as I saw this laptop's price and specifications, I immediately decided to buy it. This laptop is not on sale, and there is not rebate on it. For $629, this is a laptop I can afford and be pleased with.

PROs: Nice looks, light weight, comfortable on keyboard and touchpad, a button to switch on/off wireless, widescreen good for movies, no dead pixel on LCD screen

CONs: only two USB port and no IEEE 1394 port is not enough for future equipment updates, speaker not as good as I think for a Altec Lancing (most laptop doesn't equip good speakers except those for entertainment and games), DVD/CDRW drive does not close firmly, 4200RPM is not good enough but I am going to buy an external harddrive anyway.

08/29 Stranger

This afternoon, a grey-and-little-black kitty came to the porch of our house. We were kinda surprised to see her at first cause she is a really little cat. Her whole body is dark grey with tiny black stripes, kinda looks like tiger, except she is black. She was not afraid of us; she even walked between our legs when we all went out to see this little cutie. I guess she is still young because she can't jump very high from the ground to the handrail. We thought she might be hungry so we opened a little can of red salmon and gave her a little cup of water. She began her lunch in our porch. We all like her. It's kinda strange that we, several boys with different tastes and characters, all like this kitty.

Later this evening, the kitty went back again. She wandered around in our kitchen and began to play with the fish in the fish tank. She stood in front of the tank, waving paws to the fishes. Those poor little fishes might be very scared and they swam to avoid the "stranger". Later on, she was tired. She jumped onto my computer desk and lay down under the desk lamp. For quite a while, she was just laying there, closing her eyes, and waving her black tail. Maybe she felt boring just laying there herself, she walked to me carefully, lay her head on my elbow, and lay down again. This time, she felt much more comfortable. I turned the music down in case disrupting her nice nap.

One hour later, I saw my neighbor looking for something. I think he might be looking for this little one. So I asked him whether he was looking for a cat, and he was excited when I went to him holding the kitty in my arms. He said he and his girlfriend, Jennifer, was looking for the cat for quite a while, almost giving up and went to bed. They told me that the kitty's name is "Negro" 'cause he is black. I saw them bring the cat back to their house and I suddenly felt a little lost. I felt like I really like this cat although she only stay half a day with us. I hope I can see her later. Have a good night, Negro!

06/12 我和电脑的故事

我和电脑的第一次接触应该是在小学五年级，那个时候，电脑还是非常奢侈的东东。班上有一个男生刚买了电脑，我哀求了他很久，他终于答应让我玩一玩电脑。于是，一个普通的中午，我抱着十分兴奋和紧张的心情，按照他的指示一一打开显示器，电脑主机。那个时候电脑的操作系统还是DOS，显示器还是黑白的。虽然一点都不明白那些命令有什么作用，但是第一次操作电脑让我十分地兴奋，由此掀开了我与电脑的故事的第一章。

接下来就是初中的时候，学校设置了电脑课，也有了自己的机房。我与电脑老师的关系很好，于是中午不上课的时候，我总是缠着他带我去机房去碰碰电脑。我第一次看到彩色的的屏幕，黑色的背景，有一个红色的点不规则地在屏幕上绕来绕去，那时候还以为是老师自己编写的语言，后来才知道原来那就是屏幕保护程序。电脑课上，老师只是教我们最简单的数据输入和Basic语言，那个时候还可以用Basic语言来画图，虽然简单得不得了，但是觉得很有成就感，毕竟是自己做出来的东西。

我的二表哥那个时候正好在一家电脑修理店做工，所以放假的时候我都会去他家，让他弄游戏给我玩。那个时候已经有Windows 3.2系统了，不过还是要从DOS的界面中启动的，而且那个时候的Windows非常不稳定，经常就会出现蓝屏，也就是死机了。不过我还是在那个时候玩了很多游戏，例如大富翁，毁灭公爵，刺杀希特勒，等等。

难忘的一些经验就是在初三的时候，我们初中的附近开了一家电脑机室，我开始接触了红色警戒这个经典的游戏，虽然经常因为回家晚了被爸爸打，但是只有我知道，电脑给我打开了另外一个的世界。

上了高中，三中的电脑课和初中没有什么不同，还是教我们数据输入，由于在初中就摸过这些东西，所以还是挺轻车熟驾的。我不满足于这些东西，于是就认识了一个学校电脑社的朋友，也名义上地加入了电脑社。很多晚自习的时候，已参加电脑社学习的名义，去学校的机房上网。那个时候已经开始用Windows98了，所以电脑的功能和性能都得到了很大的提高。

2001年4月来到美国，第一次见识到那么多的电脑，才知道学校的电脑是随便使用的，而且上网，做作业，听音乐，看网上电影什么都可以。学校宿舍的网速也是非常地块，我在来美国的第一个学期就买了我的第一台电脑，HP Pavilian Desktop。我们在宿舍的所有学生都是疯狂地利用网络资源，几乎24小时不停地下载音乐，电影，小说，MTV等等，什么都有。后来学校认识到这个问题，就限制了很大一部分的网络带宽。不过在那个时候，我已经从学校的宿舍搬了出去，和一个广东的男生，Simon，在校外租了公寓。

刚搬进去的时候，还什么都不知道，上网还是申请拨号。于是网络使用时间都是我和Simon自己分配，拨号真是慢得不可思议，打开邮箱都要差不多1分钟。后来经朋友介绍，就申请了DSL。刚开始的时候还是800kps，不过已经满足了我们的需要。后来，DSL的速度已经达到3M了。科技发展真是快啊。

过了一年以后，我觉得电脑已经似乎落伍了，幸好Simon以前在国内的时候就玩电脑，所以在他的建议下，就自己组装了第二台电脑，LanParty的主板，Athlon 1.5GHz，512M SDR，GeForce2 MX400。这些配置已经可以运行很多游戏了，所以在2002年-2003年，我和Simon几乎都在玩游戏。其实也不完全都是在玩游戏，我从Simon那里学到了很多电脑硬件和软件的知识，基本都可以解决普通的电脑问题了。毕竟多了一门技能，这是好事。

2004年，在来到Pullman的时候，我陆续地更换了电脑的配件，于是，就组装了我第三台电脑，ASUS Motherboard, Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB DDR, GeForce 5200，还从朋友那里买了一个纯平的显示器。虽然有些时候电脑总是显得慢，不过我已经过了电脑升级的狂热期，所以，我觉得这台电脑应该可以陪伴我读完剩下的一年多的大学。

让我很欣慰的是，今天从朋友那里拿到 Battlefield 2的试玩版，他们的电脑配置都比我好，但是只有我的电脑可以运行这个游戏，很简单，就是因为我的显卡是 5200。
